Discussion Forum: Nurturing 21st Century Skills Through Place-Based Learning (PBL): From Classroom to Community

Arts-ED is pleased to bring you a Discussion Forum on Nurturing 21st Century Skills Through Place-Based Learning (PBL): From Classroom to Community, an initiative supported by Yayasan Hasanah and Penang Education Council with local schools to promote and disseminate cultural heritage with creative teaching and learning methods by infusing cultural heritage content into schools’ curriculum and co-curriculum.

Arts-ED works closely in training and coaching the schools to plan and design cultural heritage-related projects using the Place-based Learning methodology. School teachers and administrators from the three participating schools will be on the panel to share their PBL student projects & experiences.

The event will be divided into three parts:

Part 1 - Discussion Forum

Using the Place-based Learning (PBL) method to learn from real places, real people, and real issues, the three participating schools will share their experiences in using Place-based Learning (PBL) as a teaching and learning approach in schools.

Part 2 – Parallel Small Group Discussions

Sharing and discussion by various educators on introducing PBL methodology to schools as a strategic tool in teaching and learning in the 21st Century. The forum will discuss the benefits, readiness, feasibility, and challenges of PBL incorporation.

Part 3 – Recognition and Certificate Presentation

Certification for school teachers for completing the PBL capacity-building programme and presentation of the Sekolah Budaya Warisan Commendation to excellent schools for their efforts in championing cultural heritage.
