Raising Community Awareness and Capacity for safeguarding the Lenggong’s Heritage (2024)
Supported by Yayasan Hasanah and Think City, Arts-ED was commissioned to conduct a community awareness and capacity-building project titled Projek Peningkatan Kesedaran and Kapasiti Komuniti Terhadap Warisan Lenggong in Lenggong, Perak.
The project’s objectives include:
Conducting capacity-building training workshops for 16-20 local community members.
Developing content and programming for heritage education and awareness raising programmes conducted by the trained community.
Producing a community development toolkit for Think City
Capacity Building Workshop for Lenggong Community Members
From February to July 2024, we have conducted a series of workshops with 25 local community members who consist of local experts and historians, guides, community leaders and local government agencies. Working closely with the local community members, we mapped the heritage assets in five different sites, developed five heritage awareness trails, and trained the local community member to take on the roles of jurupandu komuniti, penyelaras komuniti, dan pencerita kampung for the heritage awareness walks.
The mapping and designing of the trail involved the following process:

Heritage Awareness Trails
The heritage awareness trail, known as “Teroka Lenggong Kita” bring Lenggong community to explore five sites, each focusing on the following theme:
Pekan dan Kampung Sebelah: Tapak Pertemuan Pelbagai Budaya
Kampung Chepor: Kampung Melayu Bersejarah
Kota Tampan: Pengkisahan Kampung Baru Cina
Kampung Kelantan: Keseimbangan Alam dan Manusia
Lembah Lenggong: Kisah Bumi dan Manusia Merentas Masa
In total, 32 sessions were conducted, engaging 322 participants who consisted of Lenggong community members, teachers, and students.
